Dear Cousins,

The Baker clan is gathering for a reunion in Burlington, Vermont next July 25th and 26th.

It's been a while since the last reunion in Washington, and I figure it's time for great-great or even great-great-great grandchildren to take on the worthwhile task. We have had a reunion in Burlington before, but it's a good place for Bakers, with family history as well as recreation options. And Vermont is beautiful in the summer.

I'm sending this to the descendants of Joseph Stannard Baker for whom Ann Cottrell has e-mail addresses. If you are in contact with cousins who didn't receive this message, it's not because they aren't invited! Please respond to this message and send me their contact information, and I will send them this message (and add them to Ann's list).

I am signing up with University of Vermont (UVM) to use one of their new, very nice dorms. These dorms have air conditioning and elevators and the rooms are all singles and doubles with attached bathrooms. There is parking nearby and they can give us meals if we want (we will figure that out later). There are lounges on each floor and an outdoor area where we can meet to catch up on family news. It is about a mile from downtown Burlington, and for those who don't want to be in a dorm, there are B&Bs and hotels close by.

I will do a google map soon, but if you type University Heights Burlington Vermont into maps.google.com, you will get an idea of where the dorms are. Follow Main Street to the left (west) to find Burlington's walking street, which is Church Street. What you can't tell from the map is that University Heights is at the top of the hill. You can see Vermont's Green Mountains to the east, and the Adirondacks in New York, across Lake Champlain to the west.

We will convene Friday evening the 25th for dinner. On Saturday, people will be able to hang out and talk or go on expeditions of various kinds. Saturday evening we will re-convene for dinner (at UVM or elsewhere depending on how many people there are), and maybe some entertainment. Sunday we will have breakfast together before people go on their way. I will provide more information on possible expeditions later.

The rate is about $80 / night per person for a single and $60 / night per person for a double room. The dining hall nearby is also very reasonable, about $30 total for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Right now I need to give UVM an idea of how many people will want rooms. Please respond to this message and tell me:

  • If you plan to come (and names of people in your group)
  • If you can't come
  • If you are not sure yet
  • If you will be here Friday the 25th, Saturday the 26th, or both
  • If you want dorm rooms, single or double, or if you will make your own arrangements
  • If you have other questions

It's most important that I know how many rooms to reserve, knowing that plans can change somewhat.

Looking forward to seeing you all next summer!
